Shehbaz Sharif Praises Pakistan–Türkiye Ties, Calls for Stronger Regional Cooperation

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has described Türkiye as Pakistan’s “strong and sincere ally,” highlighting the longstanding historical relationship between the two countries during an address in Istanbul. He said the city of Istanbul, which bridges Asia and Europe, symbolizes the close connection between the two nations.

The prime minister said the foundations of Pakistan–Türkiye relations were laid during Türkiye’s War of Independence, when Muslims of the Indian subcontinent, under the leadership of the Ali Brothers, supported the Turkish national movement. He added that Türkiye has stood by Pakistan during difficult times and praised President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for his continued support and leadership.

Shehbaz Sharif also referred to Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts in facilitating dialogue between the United States and Iran, saying the country had worked sincerely during a challenging diplomatic process that ultimately contributed to a ceasefire. Stressing the importance of building on the opportunity for peace, he called for enhanced bilateral cooperation and regional prosperity. The prime minister further commended Türkiye’s economic and industrial transformation under President Erdogan’s leadership, describing it as a model of sustained development.
