Iran-Linked Ships Pass Through Hormuz Before US Blockade

The number of ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz increased on Tuesday, with most linked to Iranian trade, just before a US naval blockade came into effect on Wednesday, according to shipping data.

US President Donald Trump reimposed a naval blockade on all Iranian ports and warned that the United States could target power plants and bridges next week if Tehran does not return to negotiations.

Ship-tracking data from Kpler showed that 11 vessels passed through the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday. Nine of them used the Iranian shipping route.

Among those ships were three empty oil tankers, including one Aframax tanker and two Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs), which entered the strait before the blockade began.
