Iran, Oman Hold Talks on Safe Shipping Through Strait of Hormuz

Iran and Oman have held several rounds of talks to discuss the safe movement of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important shipping routes.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei said the discussions focused on basic principles and practical steps to ensure that ships can safely pass through the strategic waterway.

Speaking to reporters, Baqaei said Iranian and Omani officials held several meetings in Tehran on Friday and Saturday. The talks were attended by deputy foreign ministers from both countries.

According to Baqaei, the two sides discussed ways to manage safe shipping through the Strait while respecting the rights and sovereignty of both countries that share the waterway.

He described the talks as positive and said that the two sides had made progress during the meetings. The Omani delegation left Tehran on Saturday afternoon, but discussions between the two countries are expected to continue.

Baqaei said that both technical and political consultations are still underway as Iran and Oman work to find practical arrangements for the safe passage of ships.

The Strait of Hormuz is a key route for global trade and energy supplies, making its security important for countries around the world. Any disruption to shipping through the waterway could affect international trade and energy markets.

When asked about the current situation in the Strait of Hormuz, Baqaei said there had been no change in the status of navigation.
