Farooq Abdullah Exposes India’s Claims Over Occupied Kashmir

A political controversy is continuing in occupied Kashmir, with critics accusing the Modi government of using claims of extremism as a pretext to suppress the freedom movement.

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah has described India’s claims about so-called extremism in occupied Kashmir as a political drama by the Modi government.

In a statement, Farooq Abdullah questioned why Hindu officials who came from outside the region were not being threatened if Kashmiri Pandits were allegedly receiving threats.

He said the issue of alleged threats to Kashmiri Pandits was part of a conspiracy aimed at affecting the statehood of Jammu and Kashmir.

“If the Modi government claims that extremism has been eliminated, then where are these threats coming from?” the former chief minister asked.

Farooq Abdullah said the Lieutenant Governor has full control over the police and administration and should answer questions about security in the region.

He also questioned the source of the alleged threats, saying, “I say that these very people are issuing the threats.”

Observers say the Indian government is using alleged threats to Kashmiri Pandits as propaganda to justify its continued control over occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

They further said the Indian government has deployed a large number of troops in the region in the name of fighting extremism, in an effort to suppress the Kashmiri people and their political movement.
