Trump Says US Will Rename Strait of Hormuz ‘Trump Strait’

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has said that the United States will refer to the Strait of Hormuz as the “Trump Strait,” while also declaring that Washington is winning its ongoing war with Iran.

According to Anadolu, Trump made the remarks while addressing a Republican Party midterm convention in Dallas, Texas.

Trump said the United States was winning the conflict with Iran and predicted that oil prices would fall once the war ends.

Trump Claims Control Over Strait of Hormuz

Trump also claimed that the United States was now controlling commercial activity through the Strait of Hormuz.

Against that backdrop, he proposed renaming the strategically vital waterway the “Trump Strait”, saying an announcement on the new name would be made soon.

The US president added, in a tongue-in-cheek remark, that he expected Iran’s leadership to be pleased with the new name.

The unusual proposal adds a new political and provocative dimension to the already tense confrontation between Washington and Tehran.

Strait of Hormuz Remains Global Energy Lifeline

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important maritime routes for energy shipments, connecting the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea.
