Afghan Taliban Justice System Mired in Favouritism and Bribery

12 September, 2026 13:30

The Taliban’s judicial system in Afghanistan is facing criticism over alleged corruption, delays and a lack of transparency, according to Afghan publication Hasht-e Subh.

The publication reported that long delays in registering cases, hearings and court decisions have caused many people to become frustrated and withdraw their cases.

People have also raised concerns about the procedures of Taliban courts, the treatment of those seeking justice, alleged bias and corruption.

According to the report, some Taliban judges allegedly make biased decisions in exchange for money, while there is no effective system for filing complaints against judges.

The lack of transparency has also made access to justice difficult for ordinary citizens, including women and minorities.

Legal experts said the absence of a clear legal framework and transparency has become a major obstacle to providing justice. They said real and fair justice would not be possible without clear laws, independent oversight and effective accountability.
