Pezeshkian Highlights Strait of Hormuz’s Strategic Role in Regional, Global Security

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has underscored the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz to regional and global security, saying Iran’s strong maritime presence has helped protect the country’s vital economic lifelines from disruption. In a message marking World Maritime Day, Pezeshkian described the sea as an integral part of Iran’s history, identity and economy, while calling the Strait of Hormuz one of the world’s most important maritime passages. He said Iran’s approach to the waterway was based on preserving security, stability and the interests of regional countries.

Pezeshkian stressed that sustainable security in the Persian Gulf and its waterways depends primarily on cooperation and responsibility among regional states. He also praised Iran’s maritime community for maintaining the uninterrupted flow of vital economic activity over the past year. The president highlighted scientific research, emerging technologies, maritime safety and environmental protection as key elements of Iran’s future maritime development, while calling for greater participation by shipping companies, fishing communities, ports, universities and coastal populations.

Separately, Iranian Army Coordinator Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari described maritime power as a key pillar of national strength and economic resilience. He said Iranian sailors, shipping companies, ports and energy transportation sectors had helped maintain essential supply chains during periods of war and confrontation. Sayyari highlighted the role of the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines, Ports and Maritime Organization and National Iranian Tanker Company, stressing the need to modernize fleets and infrastructure, improve maritime security, protect marine ecosystems and train specialized personnel to strengthen Iran’s role in regional and global maritime transportation networks.
