Putin Offers to Mediate Between Iran and US as Regional Tensions Escalate

Russian President Vladimir Putin has offered Moscow’s assistance in diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions between Iran and the United States, telling Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian that Russia is ready to play a role in efforts to find a diplomatic solution.
Putin made the offer during a phone call with Pezeshkian, in which the two leaders discussed bilateral relations and the situation in the region.
According to Iranian state media, Putin said Russia would continue cooperation with Iran under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty between the two countries.
The Russian president also expressed support for diplomatic initiatives aimed at reducing regional tensions and said Moscow was prepared to provide assistance as part of those efforts.
Pezeshkian, meanwhile, told a cabinet meeting that Iran was facing what he described as an “all-out war in all dimensions” but would continue pursuing negotiations to safeguard the country’s rights while maintaining its resistance.
The Iranian president stressed the importance of national unity, domestic cooperation and stronger engagement with neighbouring countries in dealing with the ongoing challenges.
The latest diplomatic contacts come as efforts to reach a settlement between Washington and Tehran remain difficult, with key disagreements continuing over Iran’s nuclear programme and broader regional security issues.
