Iranian General Says Tehran Can Defeat Plans for US Ground Invasion

15 October, 2026 10:01

A senior Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps official has said Iran is capable of defeating plans for a US ground invasion, while warning that the possibility of renewed military action against the country remains.

Brigadier General Yadollah Javani said Iran had moved beyond the stage in which an external attack could threaten the collapse of the state. He maintained that Iranian forces were prepared to respond to any new military offensive by the United States or its allies.

According to the supplied report, Javani said Iran had improved the deployment of its troops and military resources, strengthening its ability to respond to potential threats.

He also asserted that Iran’s revised defence arrangements could frustrate plans for a US ground operation. The statement reflects the Iranian military official’s assessment; the report did not provide independent evidence demonstrating the effectiveness of the changes or details of the systems involved.

The remarks suggest that Tehran wants to emphasise its ability to withstand further pressure and deter potential military action. They also underline the continuing uncertainty surrounding relations between Iran and the United States following the reported 40-day conflict.

A ground invasion would represent a major escalation beyond airstrikes or other forms of military pressure. Such an operation would involve substantial logistical requirements and carry significant risks for the forces involved, as well as potentially serious consequences for regional stability.

Iran’s ability to resist any future operation would depend on several factors, including the scale and objectives of an attack, the deployment of forces, logistics, intelligence and the military capabilities available to both sides.

Javani’s statement did not identify a specific US invasion plan or provide evidence that Washington had decided to launch a ground offensive. The possibility of such an operation should therefore be distinguished from a confirmed military decision.

The comments come as Iranian officials continue to stress military readiness and warn against renewed attacks. Whether those warnings contribute to deterrence or further intensify tensions will depend on decisions by both governments and the prospects for diplomatic engagement.

For the wider region, preventing another escalation remains important because a renewed conflict could affect security, energy supplies and relations among neighbouring countries. The Iranian general’s remarks reinforce Tehran’s public position that it is prepared for further confrontation, but the actual outcome of any future military operation cannot be established from official statements alone.
