X is not shutting down in Pakistan, at least for now

The micro blogging platform X, formally known as Twitter, is not shutting down in Pakistan at least for now, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) confirmed Thursday.

The development was revealed during the hearing of a petition challenging the closure of the social media site in the Sindh High Court.

During the proceedings, the PT confirmed that it had withdrawn the notification that led to the platform’s suspension.

The PTA’s advocate informed the court that the earlier directive for shutting down access to X had been rescinded.

The court inquired whether this meant the platform was now restored.

However, lawyer Moeez Jafri, representing the opposing party stated that despite the withdrawal of the notification, users were still unable to access X.

The court reiterated that since there was no active notification mandating the closure of X, access to the platform should be restored.
