15 May, 2024 17:25

The Islamabad High Court has approved Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan’s bail plea in the £190 million National Crime Agency (NCA) settlement reference here on Wednesday.

Two-member bench led by IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq, Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri, had earlier reserved the verdict on the bail petition.

Earlier, the NAB had filed a £190 million NCA reference against Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi and others in December last year.

Farhat Shezadi (Farah Gogi), Mirza Shehzad Akbar, Zulfi Bukhari and others are among those also accused in the reference.

The NAB Rawalpindi, in the reference, had said that all the accused in connivance with each other committed the offence of corruption.

In its short order today, the Islamabad Hight Court ordered the authorities to release Imran Khan, the founder of PTI against the surety bond of Rs1 million.

The detailed order will be issued later as the IHC announced the short judgement verbally in an open court.

Imran Khan was deposed from power via opposition’s no-confidence motion in April 2022. The PTI founder has been facing various charges ranging from corruption to terrorism.
