Disney announced the details in this year’s streaming service in a sizzle reel showcasing what’s going to land. WandaVision has no specific release date yet, leaving it uncertain whether it will debut before or after another highly anticipated Disney+ series from Marvel, Falcon and the Winter Solider. Adding the series helps Disney to pad 2020 with high-profile shows that can increase number of subscribers.

Marvel previously revealed that in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Chaos, which is still scheduled for May 7, 2021, the events of WandaVision will be referenced.

There were a few breakthrough shows when the streaming service was launched in November, most notably The Mandalorian. The Star Wars show (with Baby Yoda’s assistance) helped bring a successful start to Disney+. But both The Mandalorian and Musical High School: The Musical: The Series recently ended their first seasons, and without any major hit movie, Disney was going into 2020.

Disney+ launched spectacularly with 10 million users in the first 24 hours of launch and millions of people watching The Mandalorian. Disney would not share those figures unless the company was certain that by the end of its first year there would be just as many; producing hit shows helps to maintain and expand certain numbers of subscribers.

Now that The Mandalorian is over, some consumers wonder when the next major Disney+ show is coming. Netflix’s The Witcher just this week outperformed The Mandalorian as the most in-demand series, putting an end to the reign of Baby Yoda.
