Three teams, two PSL playoffs spots, who will qualify?
The three-way battle will commence in Karachi, as home side Karachi Kings, Quetta Gladiators, and Islamabad United will battle for the remaining two HBL Pakistan Super League playoff spots.
Things are simple for both Quetta and Islamabad, is to win their matches and qualify for the knockouts. But this isn’t the case for Karachi, who want one of them to lose their game to progress to the next stage.
Currently, Islamabad United and Quetta Gladiators are in third and fourth spots respectively with nine points each.
Shan Masood’s side is in the fifth spot with eight points and two games remaining.
Quetta have a better chance to make it into the playoffs with two games in hand, while Islamabad will be playing their last game of the campaign, which is against Multan Sultans on Sunday.
In case, if they face a defeat or get a point for any reason, they will have to wait for the outcome of the other teams.
Quetta have to face Lahore Qalandars and Multan Sultans both in Karachi. Victory in either game can see them through to the playoffs.
While Karachi will be up against Lahore Qalandars and Peshawar Zalmi in their remaining games. For them even if they win both games, they are dependent on either Islamabad United or Quetta Gladiators losing all their remaining matches for a chance to secure a playoff spot.
If Karachi Kings lose one of their matches, both Quetta Gladiators and Islamabad United will automatically qualify for the playoffs.
It’s worth noting that the defending champions, Qalandars, are already out of contention for the playoffs.
