Indian behind Francis Scott Key Bridge disaster

The cargo ship that collided with the iconic Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore was reportedly managed by an Indian crew.

A Singapore-flagged vessel, Dali, that was carrying 22 Indian crew members crashed into the decades old bridge late on Tuesday. They escaped the disaster unharmed.

According to reports, the vessel was facing power issued before the collision. Both pilots who were accountable for the incident were also safe.

The ship’s speed was fast at about eight knots and that power loss happened before the collision, said Maryland Governor Wes Moore in a statement.

He added that investigations show that it was an accident and not a terror attack.

“We can confirm that the crew notified authorities of a power issue. These people are heroes. They saved lives last night,” Moore said.

The Dali struck a steel structure that shoved more than half of the bridge into the water.

The vessel was on the way towards Sri Lanka capital Colombo from Baltimore.

At the time of collision, a construction team of eight was working on that bridge to fix potholes.

However, the construction crew fell into the river, and only two were rescued.

The missing six workers are presumed dead as the US Coast Guard and Maryland State Police officials reasoned that the water was cold and the long time during the fall and the search.

However, the research operation was suspended 18 hours after the incident.
