Pakistan to pursue legal action against TTP chief over leaked call

20 July, 2024 19:28

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has decided to take strict legal action against Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Chief Noor Wali Mehsud and terrorist Ghat Haji after a leaked phone call revealed plans for terrorist attacks in the country.

The government will also seek the extradition of terrorists from Afghanistan and lodge a strong protest with the Afghan Taliban-led interim administration over Mehsud’s presence in the country and his involvement in attacks on Pakistan.

The leaked call, which surfaced on Friday, features Mehsud instructing his henchmen to target government schools or hospitals with bombings and destroy the homes of police officers and soldiers. The conversation also reveals plans to keep the attacks secret and avoid claiming responsibility.

The government’s decision comes after a recent terrorist attack on Bannu Cantonment, which killed eight Pakistan Army soldiers. Pakistan has summoned the deputy head of mission of the Afghan embassy in Islamabad to deliver a strong demarche and urged Kabul to investigate and take action against the perpetrators.

The legal action will be taken after a forensic analysis of the leaked call, which has been confirmed to be authentic by sources. The government’s move is seen as a strong stance against terrorism and a reaffirmation of Islamabad’s stance that Kabul must prevent its land from being used by terrorist organizations against Pakistan.

The leaked call has sparked widespread concern and outrage, with many calling for swift action against the TTP and its leaders. The government’s decision to pursue legal action is seen as a positive step towards combating terrorism and ensuring the safety and security of the country.
