More rainfall expected in Karachi under fresh monsoon spell

22 July, 2024 20:40

KARACHI: Karachi, still reeling from the intense heat wave, may experience another spell of monsoon rains between July 24 and 28, depending on the weather system developing in the Bay of Bengal.

According to weather expert, the sea breeze has come to a virtual standstill, leading to muggy conditions.

However, the weatherman stated that thunderclouds may form around the city this evening that will bring light to moderate rain in some areas.

Despite the brief reprieve, Karachi is expected to experience another spell of hot and humid weather starting July 24.

The rain system developing in the Bay of Bengal may affect Sindh between July 24 and 28, and if it hits India’s Gujarat, Karachi may also receive showers.

For the past few days, Karachi has been experiencing some rainfall daily, but not enough to break the heat wave. The city’s residents are eagerly awaiting a more substantial spell of rain to bring relief from the sweltering heat.

In the meantime, the Pakistan Meteorological Department is closely monitoring the situation, and weather experts are urging residents to take necessary precautions to stay safe during the heat wave.

Yesterday,  a few areas in city received heavy rain while others light showers that brought relief to the Karachiites.

Rain was recorded in the various areas including Malir, Airport, Sohrab Goth, Safora Chowrangi, Gulshan Iqbal, University Road and Gulistan Johar, Shahrah-e-Faisal, Sarjani Town and FB area.
