President Asif Ali Zardari has signed the 26th constitutional amendment bill today.
In this connection, a gazette notification has been issued. After the signature of the president, now the 26th constitutional amendment has been implemented.
Earlier, after the Senate, the National Assembly also approved 26th constitutional amendments after the government managed to secure a two-thirds majority in both the houses.
During the passage of the first two clauses, 12 members of the opposition voted against it, but later the opposition members boycotted and walked out of the House.
The government required 224 votes to approve the 26th constitutional amendment in the House, but during the clause-by-clause approval of the amendment, 225 members voted in favour of the amendment.
Six dissident members also voted in favour of the constitutional amendment, out of which five belong to PTI while one is said to belong to PML-Q.
