Karachi University students develop world’s smallest nebuliser

07 November, 2024 19:41

Final-year students from the Pharmacy Department at the University of Karachi have developed the world’s smallest rechargeable nebuliser, offering a portable and eco-friendly solution for respiratory therapy.

The innovative device, which is less than an inch wide, provides up to 35 minutes of continuous use on a single charge, with the battery lasting for up to two days before needing a recharge.

The nebuliser, designed for on-the-go use, is especially suitable for patients with breathing issues, such as asthma or chest infections.

It is made from bioplastics, making it environmentally friendly, and is equipped with both micro-USB and USB-C charging ports.

The device is wireless, soundproof, and offers discreet respiratory support, making it ideal for use in offices or during travel.

Abdul Rahman Siddiqui, the leader of the project team, stated that traditional nebulisers are often bulky, noisy, and costly, ranging from Rs 8,000 to Rs 10,000.

In contrast, their compact, affordable nebuliser is priced under Rs 2,000, making it a more accessible option for a wider range of patients, including children and elderly individuals.
