14 dead, several missing as wedding bus plunges into Indus river in GB
At least 14 people drowned on Tuesday after a bus carrying wedding guests fell into the Indus River in Gilgit-Baltistan.
The incident occurred in the Diamer district, when the vehicle plunged from the Telchi bridge.
According to Astore Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Tariq, 14 bodies have been retrieved from the river, while the bride was among two survivors rescued from the water.
The bride was found in an injured condition.
Police officials confirmed that the bus, which was part of a wedding procession traveling toward Chakwal in Punjab, had 27 people on board.
As of Tuesday evening, 11 people remain missing, and a search operation is underway to locate them.
The bus has been recovered from the river, and authorities are continuing their efforts to find the remaining individuals.
Diamer SSP Sher Khan stated that the accident appeared to have been caused by the driver’s negligence.
He explained that the bus, reportedly speeding, struck the safety railing of the Telchi bridge before plunging into the river.
