Mobile internet services suspended in These parts of Pakistan

15 November, 2024 21:24

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) announced on Friday that mobile internet services have been temporarily suspended in certain regions of Balochistan, citing public safety concerns in the wake of rising terrorist activities in the province.

In a statement, the PTA said the measure was being implemented to ensure public safety, considering the current security situation in the affected areas.

The suspension comes after a series of violent incidents in Balochistan, including bombings and clashes with security forces.

On November 9, a suicide bombing at the Quetta Railway Station killed at least 27 people and injured more than 50, according to local officials and medical sources.

In another attack on September 26, a bombing targeting a police vehicle in Quetta resulted in the injury of at least two police officers and several civilians.

Authorities confirmed that unknown attackers planted an explosives-rigged motorcycle at the Eastern Bypass, which was detonated remotely when a police vehicle passed by.

In a more recent incident, on Thursday, two members of the security forces, including a major, were killed in an exchange of fire with terrorists in Harnai, Balochistan.

The two security personnel—Major Muhammad Haseeb, 28, from Rawalpindi, and Havildar Noor Ahmed, 38, from Barkhan—were part of a security team dispatched to thwart an attack on civilians.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed the deaths, stating that Major Haseeb and his team had responded swiftly to reports of terrorists planning to target innocent civilians in the region.
