13 December, 2024 16:25

Security of users of Microsoft’s Windows operating system is at risk in Pakistan.

In an advisory issued by the National Cyber Emergency Response Team, it was stated that Microsoft users’ accounts and login passwords are at risk in the country.

It warned that a vulnerability in Microsoft’s Windows system could allow hackers to gain access to sensitive data, while cyber attacks could be launched to steal it.

Hackers can gain control of the entire system by accessing login passwords and networks, the statement said.

The advisory further said that hackers don’t even need to open a file to access user data, while they can gain access to networks and sensitive information.

Users of other Windows versions including Windows 7 to 11, Windows Server 2022 may be affected.

It said that Microsoft has not yet released any official solution in this regard.

The statement recommends dual security systems and network robustness, saying that specific information can be protected by firewalls and virtual local area networks.

The advisory also advised not to open suspicious files via USB, email attachments and share folders.
