Israeli military chief resigns over October 7 ‘failure’

On Monday, Major General Herzi Halevi, the leader of Israel’s military, resigned, citing his responsibility for the failures that occurred during the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023.
In his resignation letter, Halevi explained that he was stepping down due to his acknowledgment of the military’s shortcomings on that day, even as the military has seen significant successes in other operations.
His resignation comes as a reflection of his sense of accountability for the events that unfolded during the deadly attack.
It should be noted that on Wednesday, the Qatari Prime Minister announced the Gaza ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas. He said that the first phase of the ceasefire will begin on January 19 (today).
The 6-week ceasefire will be implemented in 3 phases, phase-by-phase prisoner exchanges and negotiations on ending the war.
In the second phase, Hamas will release the prisoners of the Israeli forces and the Israeli army will withdraw from the public places of Gaza. In the third phase, the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza and the reconstruction of Gaza will be carried out.
