NAB files reference against Malik Riaz

19 February, 2025 17:45

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has filed references against property tycoon Malik Riaz in relation to the New Murree Golf City project and the Rakh Takht Padi land dispute.

According to NAB sources, references have been filed in the Accountability Court against Malik Riaz, Mahboob Shaokat, Muhammad Irfan Elahi, and 28 other individuals in the Golf City project case.

In the Rakh Takht Padi case, 18 individuals, including Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, Malik Riaz, and Ahmad Ali Riaz, have been named. The references accuse the suspects of illegally occupying state-owned land.

In the New Murree Golf City reference, the accused are charged with encroaching upon 4,500 kanals of government land. Evidence has reportedly been collected that shows Malik Riaz used the assistance of officials from the Revenue and Forest Departments to illegally acquire and add this land to the Bahria Town development project.

As per NAB sources, the reference in the Rakh Takht Padi case states that Chaudhry Pervez Elahi illegally redefined land boundaries in 2006. The accused are allegedly responsible for the unlawful occupation of 5,165 kanals of land in the area.

In both references, NAB has requested legal action against the accused individuals for their involvement in these land grabbing activities. The references come after NAB had earlier stated on January 21, 2025, that investigations are ongoing against Malik Riaz and others regarding several cases of fraud and deception.
