KARACHI – As Eid-ul-Fitr 2025 approaches, people across Pakistan are eagerly looking forward to getting crisp, fresh currency notes to distribute as Eidi among children.

Eidi is a traditional gift of cash given by elders to children, and receiving new currency notes makes the experience even more exciting for them.

Will SBP Issue Fresh Currency Notes for Eid 2025?

So far, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has not announced whether it will issue fresh currency notes this year. It is worth noting that no new currency notes were issued for Eid-ul-Fitr in 2023.

SBP’s SMS Service for Fresh Currency Notes

In the past, SBP introduced an SMS-based service that allowed citizens to obtain new currency notes from designated bank branches.

Here’s how the SMS service worked:

1. A person sent an SMS containing their CNIC number and the e-branch ID (e.g., 32453-3454432-1(space)KHI001) to 8877.
2. In response, they received a redemption code, e-branch address, and validity period for the code.
3. The redemption code was valid for two working days as per the provided dates.
4. To collect the notes, the individual had to visit the designated branch with:
   • Original CNIC/Smart card
   • Photocopy of CNIC/Smart card
   • Transaction code received from 8877

How Many Fresh Notes Could You Get?

Each individual was eligible to receive:
Three packets of Rs. 10 denomination
One packet of Rs. 50
One packet of Rs. 100

If SBP resumes the service for 2025, a formal announcement is expected in the coming weeks.

When is Eid-ul-Fitr 2025?

According to predictions, Eid-ul-Fitr 2025 is expected to fall on March 31. However, the final confirmation will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee based on moon sighting.

People in Pakistan may enjoy five to six Eid holidays, depending on the official announcement.
