Punjab Boards Introduce New Evaluation System For Exams Approved

28 March, 2025 12:56

The Punjab Board Committee of Chairmen has introduced a revamped evaluation system, replacing the conventional numerical marking with a grading and GPA-based system for matriculation and intermediate examinations.

As per reports, student performance in annual exams will now be assessed using a 10-point grading scale. The passing criteria have also been modified, with the minimum passing marks raised to 40%. Furthermore, students who fail to meet this threshold will receive a grade labeled as “Unsatisfactory.”

This new evaluation method will be rolled out in two phases. In the first phase, starting in 2026, class 9 and 11 students will be assessed using the grading system. The second phase, scheduled for 2027, will extend the grading system to class 10 and 12 students.

In a separate development, the Punjab Education Department has announced revised school timings, which will be implemented after the Eidul Fitr 2025 holidays. A notification has been issued confirming that these new timings will take effect from April 7 and remain valid until October 15.

According to the notification, single-shift schools will operate from 8:00 AM to 1:30 PM, while on Fridays, they will close earlier at 12:00 PM. For double-shift schools, the first session will run from 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM (ending at 12:00 PM on Fridays). The second shift will begin at 1:00 PM and end at 5:30 PM, with Friday timings adjusted from 2:30 PM onwards.
