King Charles not expected to abdicate amid health concerns

14 April, 2025 13:50

Amid growing speculation about King Charles stepping down from royal duties due to his ongoing cancer treatment, royal expert Jonathan Sacerdoti has shed light on the monarch’s intentions.

In an interview, Sacerdoti clarified that abdication is not currently on the cards for the King. “It seems unlikely that the king will want to step back from his duties any more than is strictly necessary,” he explained.

The royal commentator noted that although King Charles had to cancel some engagements recently, the impact on his overall schedule was minimal. “Though he had to cancel some engagements recently, it caused very minimal disruption to his otherwise busy schedule. He has always been clear that his work ethic compels him to be as busy as possible.” Sacerdoti added, emphasizing the monarch’s strong sense of duty.

Drawing a comparison to Queen Elizabeth II, Sacerdoti said that King Charles appears committed to following in his mother’s footsteps. “The example of his late mother’s older years shows that, when needed, the royal family can accommodate sharing the burden, if necessary,” he noted.

He further stated, “But just as Queen Elizabeth II continued to work well into her old age, and even when she was not entirely healthy, I am sure that the king will want to do the same and keep going as much as is possible.”

The remarks come as reassurance to royal watchers that despite health challenges, King Charles is dedicated to fulfilling his role as monarch.
