Fatwa issued against Tamil actor Thalapathy Vijay for inviting alcoholics at Iftar party

17 April, 2025 11:16

A fatwa has been issued against renowned Tamil actor and politician Thalapathy Vijay by Maulana Shahabuddin Rizvi Barelvi, the president of All India Muslim Jamaat and the chief Mufti of Chashma Darul Ifta.

The fatwa accuses Vijay of engaging in anti-Islamic actions and exploiting religious sentiments for political purposes.

Maulana Rizvi alleges that Vijay has portrayed Muslims as terrorists and extremists in his films, with a particular focus on his movie The Best, where Muslims were depicted negatively. He further criticized Vijay’s films for portraying Muslims as “beastly” and “devilish,” which he finds unacceptable.

The fatwa also points out that Thalapathy Vijay hosted an Iftar event where individuals who were not fasting or adhering to Islamic principles were invited. Some of the attendees were allegedly involved in alcohol consumption and gambling.

Such actions are seen as disrespectful to the sacred month of Ramadan, which contradicts Islamic teachings.

Maulana Rizvi has accused Vijay of transitioning from the film industry to politics, suggesting that he is attempting to win Muslim support despite his history of anti-Islamic tendencies.

He has urged Muslims in Tamil Nadu to distance themselves from Thalapathy Vijay, refrain from attending his events, and avoid inviting him to religious gatherings.

Additionally, some Sunni Muslims have lodged complaints with the police, raising concerns about the inappropriate activities during the Iftar event.
