Schoolgirl Spared Jail After Fatally Stabbing Abusive Father to Protect Sister

17 April, 2025 13:53

In a harrowing incident in Moscow, a 15-year-old girl named Alisa has been spared prison time after reportedly stabbing her abusive father to death in what investigators believe was a desperate act to save her elder sister from harm.

According to Russian state authorities, the teenager ambushed her father, Roman Z., 42, from behind and stabbed him twice in the neck with a kitchen knife inside their family apartment. The father, who worked as a security guard, was found dead at the scene by police. He had a known history of criminal offenses, including drug possession and assaulting a police officer.

The fatal confrontation occurred after Roman allegedly attempted to coerce his 20-year-old daughter, Maryana, a medical student, into taking out a loan to cover his escalating gambling debts. When she refused, he became violent—first striking her in the face, then grabbing a knife from the kitchen and attempting to attack her. Though he only managed to injure her hand, he then began dragging her by the hair.

In a bid to protect her sister, Alisa reportedly ran to the kitchen, retrieved another knife, and struck her father. Despite the injury, Roman continued to attack before collapsing. Their mother, a dental nurse, was present during the incident and was said to be in a state of shock.

Reports from Russian media outlet Readovka suggest that Roman had a long-standing pattern of physically and emotionally abusing his daughters, often threatening them and discouraging them from seeking help. “He told them that going to the police was useless and that it would only make things worse,” the outlet reported.

While Alisa has been spared jail for now, the court’s decision may still be revisited. Investigators have ordered a psychological post-mortem assessment of the deceased father.

The case bears resemblance to a 2018 incident involving the Khachaturyan sisters, who killed their father, Mikhail Khachaturyan, after enduring years of alleged sexual abuse and violence.

Authorities continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the latest case, with child protection and domestic abuse advocates raising fresh concerns about family safety and the failure to intervene in toxic household environments.
