UAE plans to switch Emirates ID with AI-powered biometric face recognition system
The United Arab Emirates is getting ready to introduce a new high-tech system that could replace Emirates ID cards in the future. This new system will use facial recognition and fingerprints, powered by artificial intelligence (AI), to confirm people’s identity.
According to UAE Minister Abdul Rahman Al Owais, the system is expected to launch across the country within a year.
With this upgrade, UAE residents and citizens will be able to use their face to access government services or pass through airport checks—no need to carry an ID. It will save time and make the process more secure and convenient.
Parts of this technology are already being used. Abu Dhabi’s Zayed International Airport uses facial recognition to check passengers, and Dubai Airport has a “Smart Tunnel” that lets people pass passport control in seconds.
The new system will make identity checks easier in many areas, like voting, traveling, and using government services.
