India blocks Pakistan govt’s X account after Pahalgam attack

24 April, 2025 12:28

In a sign of escalating tensions, the Indian government on Thursday blocked access to the official X account (formerly Twitter) of the Government of Pakistan, @GovtofPakistan, within Indian territory, as reported by Indian media outlets.

Users attempting to access the account are now shown a message indicating that the restriction is due to legal demands.

This move follows the recent deadly incident in Pahalgam, where 28 people were killed. Despite Indian authorities swiftly attributing the attack to cross-border elements, no concrete evidence has been presented.

Pakistan, meanwhile, has firmly reiterated its stance of condemning all forms of terrorism. Indian security forces have intensified operations in the disputed region of Jammu and Kashmir as the situation grows more volatile.

The Pahalgam attack, described by Indian media as one of the most lethal since 2019, has further strained already fragile ties. However, Pakistani officials and international observers are urging for restraint, a reduction in hostile rhetoric, and an impartial investigation into the incident.

In a separate development, India has also announced the immediate closure of the Attari check post at the Attari-Wagah border— the sole road crossing between the two countries. The closure affects both trade and people-to-people connectivity. Pakistani nationals currently in India have been instructed to leave and return to Pakistan by May 1, 2025.
