Marji Daoud killed, innocent bystander wounded in NYC shooting
A 28-year-old man was killed and a woman was injured when someone opened fire on a crowd in the Bronx on Wednesday evening. The man, Marji Daoud from Yonkers, was shot in the head around 5 p.m. on University Avenue near West Kingsbridge Road.
Police found him seriously wounded, and he was taken to Saint Barnabas Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
A 33-year-old woman, who was not the intended target, was also shot in the hip. She managed to get herself to Woodhull Hospital and is now in stable condition. She’s the second innocent bystander to be hit by gunfire in the city within 24 hours.
Police are still trying to figure out whether Daoud was the target or just another bystander. The shooter is still on the run and no arrests have been made yet.
This shooting came just a day after another tragic incident in Harlem, where 61-year-old Excenia Mette was caught in crossfire while leaving a salon in her apartment building. She was also shot in the head and later died in the hospital.
Mette was well-known in her community. In the 1980s, she opened the first Black- and woman-owned bodega in the area, which she ran until the pandemic forced her to close. Police are still investigating both shootings.
