Kremlin Says Trump, Russia Aligned on Crimea

Donald Trump’s Student Visa Plan Faces Setback in Ohio
Russia has welcomed recent remarks by former U.S. President Donald Trump about Crimea, saying his position “fully corresponds” with Russia’s long-standing view that the peninsula is not up for discussion.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov made the statement on Thursday, April 25, while speaking to reporters. His comments came shortly after Trump criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for insisting that Crimea remains a part of Ukraine.
“This fully corresponds to our understanding and what we have been saying for a long time,” Peskov said, according to Russian state news agency TASS.
The controversy began when Trump posted on his Truth Social platform, claiming that “Crimea was lost years ago… and is not even a point of discussion.” He also blamed Zelensky for harming any chance at peace talks by holding firm on Crimea’s status.
Trump’s post appeared to align with Russia’s position on the issue. The Kremlin annexed Crimea from Ukraine in 2014 after a disputed referendum, which most of the international community does not recognize as legal. Since then, Russia has treated Crimea as part of its territory, despite continued objections from Ukraine and its allies.
President Zelensky responded strongly to Trump’s remarks, repeating that Ukraine will never give up its claim to Crimea. “We will not legally recognize the occupation of Crimea. There’s nothing to talk about here. This is against our constitution,” he said.
Crimea remains a critical issue in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. Ukraine has consistently stated that any peace deal must include the full return of all its occupied territories, including Crimea. On the other hand, Russia has made it clear that it considers Crimea to be permanently Russian.
The discussion comes at a sensitive time, as global attention remains fixed on the war in Ukraine and efforts to find a diplomatic resolution. Trump’s comments could influence how future U.S. involvement in the conflict is viewed, especially as he is considered a leading candidate for the 2024 presidential election.
Trump has previously faced criticism for appearing to support Russian viewpoints. During his presidency, he was often accused of having a soft stance on Moscow. His recent remarks may reignite that debate.
This is a developing story, and more updates are expected soon as international reactions continue to unfold.
