Greta Gerwig’s ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’ Film Finds Its Villain — Actress to Play White Witch Revealed

Greta Gerwig’s much-anticipated adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia has reportedly cast its villain. According to The Hollywood Reporter, actress Emma Mackey, known for her breakout role in Sex Education, is set to play the iconic White Witch, also known as Jadis.

The character was previously portrayed by Tilda Swinton in the 2005 film The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Mackey’s casting marks a fresh take on the powerful and chilling antagonist of C.S. Lewis’ beloved fantasy series.

The Chronicles of Narnia film is being written and directed by Gerwig, the acclaimed filmmaker behind Lady Bird, Little Women, and Barbie. This Narnia installment is expected to be based on The Magician’s Nephew, the first novel in the seven-book series and a prequel to the other stories.

Joining Mackey in the cast is legendary actress Meryl Streep, who is reportedly in discussions to voice Aslan, the noble lion and protector of Narnia. Aslan plays a central role in guiding human children who mysteriously find themselves in the magical realm.

The project is part of Netflix’s larger plan to develop films and series based on C.S. Lewis’ world of Narnia, a move announced in 2018. Gerwig officially joined the production in 2020.

The film is scheduled for a global release on IMAX for two weeks starting Thanksgiving 2026 and will premiere on Netflix around Christmas. Fans of the franchise are eagerly awaiting this bold new chapter.
