Netflix Cancels This Series Following Its Third Season

Heartstopper, Alice Oseman’s queer series, won’t be returning for a fourth season after three runs on Netflix. However, fans have something to look forward to: a feature film to wrap up Nick Nelson (Kit Connor) and Charlie Spring’s (Joe Locke) story for good.

The upcoming film will be directed by Wash Westmoreland, with Oseman serving as an executive producer alongside Patrick Walters, Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, Euros Lyn, Locke, and Connor. The movie will act as the series finale, picking up after the events of Season 3 and bringing the characters’ journey to a close.

Netflix made the announcement on April 22, marking the third anniversary of Heartstopper’s debut in 2022. Oseman shared her excitement for the conclusion, saying, “I am completely overjoyed that we will get to tell the end of the Heartstopper story. I’m so grateful to everyone who has worked hard to make this possible and to the incredible fans of Heartstopper for your patience and passion. I cannot wait to bring this story to a magical conclusion.”

While fans had been hoping for a renewal, Oseman had previously shared updates, noting in October 2024 that, “there are a lot of moving parts to account for that make it hard to solidify anything,” but expressed optimism about the final installment. Earlier this year, she further commented, “We’re feeling optimistic, we’re feeling hopeful and hopefully be able to share some news about that sometime soon. Fingers crossed.”

The Netflix series will serve as the final chapter in the Heartstopper saga.
