Anthony Joshua Eyes Investment in Hometown Club Watford

Boxing superstar Anthony Joshua has expressed interest in investing in Watford FC, his hometown football club. The former world heavyweight champion, whose net worth is estimated by Forbes at $83 million (£62.5m), revealed in a recent interview with the Seconds Out YouTube channel that he’s exploring investment opportunities, and Watford is one of them.

Watford’s owner, Gino Pozzo, has been actively seeking fresh capital for the Championship club. Last summer, Pozzo launched a digital equity scheme aiming to sell 10% of the club for £17.5m — valuing Watford at £175m — but the initiative fell short, raising just £3.9m before being scrapped in March.

Despite the setback, Pozzo and the Pozzo family, who acquired the club in 2012, remain open to external investment or a full sale. Watford recently ended their third straight Championship season mid-table, finishing 14th.

Joshua commented on the opportunity, stating, “Rather than spending recklessly, I’m trying to invest money into asset classes, and that [Watford] was an opportunity that presented itself. It’s a serious investment. If it comes off, it should do well.”

Although no deal has been finalized, Joshua’s interest could inject much-needed optimism into the club’s stagnating fortunes — and possibly set the stage for a Premier League push.
