Indian airlines lost 250 crore due to Pakistan airspace closure

05 May, 2025 17:18

Pakistan’s airspace has been closed to Indian flights for 12 days now, and it’s causing major trouble for Indian airlines. So far, over 1,250 flights have been affected, and the losses are adding up to over ₹250 crore.

Big Indian airlines like Air India, IndiGo, Akasa Air, SpiceJet, and Air India Express have had to cancel or change their usual routes. IndiGo, in particular, had to completely stop flying to Central Asian cities like Almaty and Tashkent because its planes don’t have the range to take longer routes around the ban.

Other airlines are still flying but are losing money because of extra fuel costs and delays. Flights from major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Amritsar, Ahmedabad, and Bengaluru are feeling the most impact.

Aviation experts warn that these ongoing losses are making it even harder for Indian airlines to recover from the financial damage caused by the pandemic. Meanwhile, the Indian government hasn’t yet been able to resolve the issue through diplomatic talks.
