Pezeshkian Says US Violated Islamabad MoU Commitments Within Two Weeks

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has accused the United States of violating its commitments under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding less than two weeks after US President Donald Trump signed the agreement. Addressing the 26th Summit of the Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) on Tuesday, Pezeshkian described the recent US-Israeli attacks against Iran as a violation of the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter and international law.

Pezeshkian said Washington initially honored the commitments contained in the document signed by Trump for less than two weeks before allegedly beginning to make what he called “excessive demands” and breaching its obligations. He said the alleged violations have continued to date and were met with an “appropriate response” from Tehran. The Iranian president also argued that the US-Israeli military campaign against Iran constituted an act of aggression and condemned what he described as disregard for international legal principles.

Pezeshkian said Iran remains prepared to reciprocate if Washington returns to its commitments under the Islamabad Memorandum. “Unlike the United States, my country has a distinguished record of honoring its international commitments and agreements,” he said, adding that Iran has consistently sought to act in accordance with international law. He emphasized that Tehran’s position remains tied to mutual compliance, suggesting that renewed adherence by Washington could pave the way for Iran to resume its own obligations under the agreement.
