Tragic Death of Melissa Cross in Greece: Heartbreaking Final Message Revealed

Melissa Cross, a 23-year-old care worker from Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales, sent a devastating final message to her family before taking her own life while on holiday in Zakynthos, Greece, an inquest has revealed.

A Holiday Turned Tragic

Melissa was staying at the four-star Golden Sun Hotel in Kalamaki with her boyfriend when she sent the emotional message explaining her “thoughts and intentions.” Just hours later, she was found dead on September 25, 2023—2,000 miles away from home.

Despite posting happy holiday photos in the days before her death—including snaps of sandy beaches, turtle sightings, and quad biking—her final social media caption read: “Most beautiful morning seeing the turtles and visiting the blue caves, absolutely obsessed with how clear the water is out here.”

Coroner’s Findings

At the Pontypridd inquest, Coroner Kerrie Burge concluded Melissa’s death was suicide, stating: “There had been no previous indications that Melissa would harm herself, but she sent a goodbye message explaining her thoughts and intentions. On the balance of probabilities, it is more likely than not that Melissa intended to take her own life.”

Family’s Heartbreaking Tributes

Melissa’s sister shared an emotional tribute: “Melissa, my kind, caring, and amazing baby sister. I miss you every second of every day. My world will never be the same again. I’ve loved you all of your life, and I will love and miss you for the rest of mine.”

Another family member wrote: “Melissa, my beautiful, gorgeous Auntie Mel. I love and miss you so much more than anything. We’ve made so many amazing memories together. We were so close. Rest in pure paradise, Melissa.”
