Young Australian Tourist Dies After Jumping From Boat in Thailand

Aussie man, 22, drowns after diving off a boat while reportedly swimming intoxicated in Thailand
A 22-year-old man from Melbourne, Australia, has died while on holiday in Thailand. The incident happened on Tuesday near the coast of Ko Racha Yai, a popular tourist island.
The young man was with six other tourists when he jumped from a boat into the sea. Reports say he had consumed a large amount of alcohol before the accident.
According to Chalong Police, he was seen jumping in and out of the water multiple times. Eventually, he did not resurface and was found unconscious on the boat.
A video shared online showed medics performing CPR, trying to revive him. One paramedic stepped back while another continued the efforts.
Emergency services were called at 2:28 PM local time. The man was taken to Chalong Hospital in Phuket, but doctors pronounced him dead at 3:53 PM.
Police confirmed no illegal drugs were found on the boat. However, they did find several empty alcohol bottles.
The man’s body was later moved to Vachira Phuket Hospital while plans were made to return him to Australia.
Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said they are helping the young man’s family.
“We send our deepest condolences to the family at this difficult time,” the department said in a statement.
They are providing consular assistance, which includes working with Thai authorities and helping with funeral arrangements or repatriation.
Ko Racha Yai is about an hour away from Phuket by boat. It is known for its clear water, snorkeling spots, and boat tours.
