Seven months after the tragic death of English pop star Liam Payne, his former partner Cheryl has been appointed as the administrator of his multi-million dollar estate, according to foreign media reports.
The court documents, dated May 1, name Cheryl—best known for her music career and past relationship with Payne—as well as attorney Richard Mark Bray, as the administrators of the late singer’s estate. The documents state they currently hold limited authority and cannot distribute the assets.
Liam Payne, who rose to fame as a member of the global boy band One Direction, died last October at the age of 31 after falling from the third-floor balcony of his hotel room at Casa Sur in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The late singer did not leave behind a will, prompting the court to appoint administrators to manage his estate, which is estimated to have a gross value of $38 million and a net value of $32.2 million in the U.K.
Cheryl and Liam were in a relationship from 2016 to 2018 and share an eight-year-old son named Bear. At the time of his death, Payne was in a relationship with social media influencer Kate Cassidy.
The appointment of Cheryl and Bray ensures the proper legal handling of Payne’s financial affairs in the absence of a will.
