Fear of Pakistan, India Shuts Down 27 Airports & Cancels 90 Flights

09 May, 2025 17:50

India cancelled 90 domestic and five international flights due to rising tensions with Pakistan. The government also shut down 27 airports, including the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi.

According to PTI (Press Trust of India), the cancellations and closures were made because of serious security concerns. Officials said these were precautionary steps to deal with the risk of possible attacks from Pakistan.

A notice called NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) was issued. It said that all 27 airports would remain closed until 5:29 AM on Friday, May 10.

Some of the other airports that are now closed include Srinagar, Leh, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Shimla, Dharamshala, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Patiala, and Bhuj. Many of these airports are used by both the Indian Air Force and commercial airlines.

Government officials did not give full details publicly. But some sources said this move is part of a larger plan. India may be preparing for military action if the situation with Pakistan gets worse.

These closures have caused a lot of confusion and delays for travellers. Many people were stuck at airports. Airlines told passengers to check their flight status and avoid going to affected airports unless needed.

The situation comes after several days of high tension along the India-Pakistan border. Military forces are on high alert.

Other countries have asked both India and Pakistan to stay calm. They want both sides to talk and solve the matter peacefully. Experts say that if the conflict grows, it could bring more danger to the whole region.
