Ameer Gilani Slams Bollywood Over Removal of Mawra Hocane’s Image from ‘Sanam Teri Kasam’ Poster

Actor Ameer Gilani has openly criticized the removal of his wife, actress Mawra Hocane’s image from the poster of the Bollywood film Sanam Teri Kasam, calling the move disappointing and unjustified.

In his statement, Gilani voiced his frustration, labeling the decision as unfortunate. He stressed that Pakistani artists have long played a key role in elevating the Indian film industry on the global stage by contributing to its creative and artistic depth.

This development is part of a broader crackdown amid escalating political tensions between Pakistan and India. The Indian government has recently enforced restrictions on Pakistani content across OTT platforms and streaming services.

As a result of these restrictions, Mawra Hocane’s image—despite her lead role in the 2016 film—has been removed from the film’s cover art on platforms such as Spotify and YouTube Music.

Taking aim at Indian filmmakers, Ameer Gilani urged them to prioritize better storytelling and original scripts rather than making cosmetic changes like editing out actors from visuals.

Joining the conversation, actress and TV host Hina Altaf also spoke in support of Mawra, stating that such actions have no bearing on a true artist’s worth or credibility. “These moves don’t diminish an artist’s place,” she affirmed.

This incident isn’t isolated. Pakistani celebrities have repeatedly faced such backlash on Indian platforms, especially during periods of heightened diplomatic strain between the two nations. Content bans and exclusions have become a recurring issue in the cross-border entertainment landscape.
