Why Paresh Rawal Is No Longer Part of ‘Hera Pheri 3’?

Paresh Rawal, best known for his legendary portrayal of Baburao Ganpatrao Apte in the cult classics Hera Pheri (2000) and Phir Hera Pheri (2006), has officially stepped away from the much-anticipated sequel Hera Pheri 3. The news, confirmed by Rawal himself, has left fans heartbroken.

In a conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Rawal confirmed the swirling rumors, stating simply, “Yes, it’s a fact,” when asked about his departure from the film. His decision reportedly stems from creative differences with the filmmakers.

In an earlier interview with Lallantop, the veteran actor reflected on the lasting impact of the Baburao character and how it has affected his artistic freedom. “It’s like a noose,” he remarked, revealing that as early as 2007, he had approached filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj with a request to cast him in a different role, albeit in the same appearance, to help him escape the shadow of Baburao.

“Every director only saw me as Babu Rao,” Rawal shared. “But I’m an actor, not a stereotype. I want to explore more.” He also recounted a 2022 meeting with director R. Balki, where he made a similar request—hoping to break out of the creative limitations imposed by the iconic role.

While Rawal acknowledged the joy he receives from the audience’s love for Baburao, he admitted it also brings a creative burden. “There’s pressure. As much as the affection is fulfilling, I need freedom from it,” he said.

Following the announcement, fans flooded social media with emotional reactions. One tweet read, “What? So all the fun has exited from Hera Pheri 3?” Another added, “No Paresh Rawal, no Hera Pheri 3.”

With Rawal’s exit, many feel the soul of the franchise may be lost.
