Senior leader and central vice president of Awami Tehreek, Hoor-un-Nisa Palijo, passed away at the age of 81 in Karachi. According to a statement from the party spokesperson, she had been suffering from breathing issues and died earlier today.

Her funeral prayer will be held today at 4:30 PM in Mangar Khan Palijo village, located in Jung Shahi, Sindh. In her honour, Awami Tehreek has announced three days of mourning.

A Lifelong Struggle for Women’s Rights and Democracy

Hoor-un-Nisa Palijo was among the founding members of the Sindhyani Tehreek, a women’s rights movement in Sindh. Throughout her life, she actively stood up against military dictatorships, especially during the regimes of General Zia-ul-Haq and General Pervez Musharraf. She remained a bold and consistent voice against injustice.

She also played a significant role in protests against canal farming and corporate agriculture, always advocating for the rights of peasants and the underprivileged in rural Sindh.

International Representation of Sindhi Women

Hoor-un-Nisa represented Sindhi women on international platforms, including in India and the Philippines, where she spoke about the struggles and rights of women in Sindh. She continued the revolutionary ideology of Rasool Bakhsh Palijo, working closely with the Awami Tehreek and Sindhyani Tehreek.

Party leaders and members from both movements have expressed deep sorrow and grief over her passing. Her death marks the end of an era of principled resistance and grassroots activism in Sindh.
