A 29-year-old man has been arrested after walking into Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH) in Glasgow carrying a crossbow. The incident happened early Thursday morning at around 6:30 AM.
Police and emergency services were quickly called to the scene. Armed officers arrived at the hospital and arrested the man without any injuries being reported.
Police Reassure Public
Inspector Alyssa Fullelove-McCann from the local police team said: “We understand this incident may cause concern. But we want to reassure the public that it is being treated as an isolated case. There is no ongoing threat to the public or hospital staff.”
Hospital Temporarily Closed Atrium
The hospital’s main atrium was closed for a short time as a safety measure. Traffic around the hospital was also diverted during the response.
An official statement from NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde confirmed their involvement: “We supported police during an incident at the atrium of QEUH this morning. There was no disruption to hospital services. The situation was handled professionally by our security staff before police arrived.”
By mid-morning, the hospital had resumed normal operations.
No Services Affected
Despite the serious nature of the situation, hospital officials confirmed there was no harm to patients, visitors, or staff. All hospital departments and services continued without interruption.
