Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez to Wed in Lavish Venetian Ceremony at Historic 14th-Century Venue

03 June, 2025 20:45

Jeff Bezos, 61, and Lauren Sanchez, 55, are set to tie the knot in what’s being dubbed the “wedding of the year”, and the grand venue has finally been revealed: the Scuola Grande della Misericordia in Venice, Italy.

The centuries-old venue, rich with Renaissance history and once a center for Venice’s elite, was reportedly booked by the Amazon founder for the couple’s wedding later this month, on the weekend of June 24.

Built in 1310, the Scuola Grande della Misericordia once housed one of Venice’s seven grand confraternities and was affiliated with the silk weavers’ guild, among the wealthiest and most influential circles of the time. The interior features works by legendary artists such as Tintoretto, Veronese, and Pellegrini, making it one of the most culturally significant buildings in the Floating City.

Star-Studded Wedding Weekend

Bezos and Sanchez’s celebration is expected to be a $10 million spectacle, with an A-list guest list including:

  • The Kardashians

  • Eva Longoria

  • Katy Perry

  • Ivanka Trump & Jared Kushner

  • Donald Trump Jr. & Bettina Anderson

The couple recently appeared at the Monaco Grand Prix, continuing their streak of high-profile appearances ahead of the big day.

Private Jets, Superyachts, and Public Backlash

Though many guests will fly in by private jet—Bezos owns four Gulfstream aircraft—his $500 million megayacht “Koru” won’t be able to dock close to Venice due to its massive size.

Venetians, already grappling with the effects of mass tourism and pollution, are furious. Local groups have accused Bezos of turning Venice into a “billionaire’s playground.”

A protest is being organized by Laboratorio Occupato Morion, a left-wing activist collective. The group has circulated flyers online with the slogan: “No space for Bezos, No space for oligarchs!”

They’ve planned a demonstration for Friday, just ahead of the wedding weekend, to express opposition to what they see as the commercialization of their historic city.

“Venice is being transformed into yet another playground for billionaires, while everyday residents are left with discomfort, exclusion, and economic insecurity,” the group posted.

Inside the Venue: Scuola Grande della Misericordia

  • Location: Heart of historic Venice

  • Architecture: Blend of Roman basilica and Venetian style

  • Notable artists featured: Tintoretto, Zanchi, Pellegrini

  • Previous use: Home to Reyer Sports Club (used for basketball from 1914)

  • Now: Reserved for elite events and private rentals

This grand event is expected to come with tight security, street closures, and airspace restrictions, especially as it coincides with Venice’s busy tourist season.
