James Wood and Tanika Bromley Charged with Murder in Disappearance of Queensland Teen Pheobe Bishop

05 June, 2025 16:25

Two people, James Wood, 34, and Tanika Bromley, 33, have been charged with murder following the disappearance of 17-year-old Queensland teen Pheobe Bishop.

The pair, who were housemates of Pheobe in Bundaberg, were arrested on Thursday night. They face one count of murder each, along with two counts of interfering with a corpse.

Pheobe’s remains have not yet been found, nearly three weeks after she vanished without a trace. Police continue to investigate the case and will conduct physical searches as new information emerges.

Pheobe’s mother, Kylie Johnson, shared a heartbreaking message after receiving the update from authorities. She wrote, “Our world has just been shattered into the most horrific place I’ve ever been.”

Marking three weeks since Pheobe’s disappearance, Kylie also posted on Facebook, expressing hope and heartbreak. She recalled the close bond Pheobe shared with her siblings and pleaded for anyone with information to come forward.

Pheobe was last seen on May 15 leaving the Gin Gin home near Bundaberg, where she lived with Wood and Bromley. On that day, the couple drove her to Bundaberg Airport for an 8:30 am flight to Brisbane and then to Perth, where she was to meet her boyfriend. However, Pheobe never boarded the flight, and neither she nor her luggage has been seen since. Police also confirmed her phone and bank accounts remain inactive.

James Wood was initially arrested on Wednesday but was released without charge before being re-arrested on Thursday alongside Bromley.

Police have conducted multiple inquiries, including forensic searches of the Gin Gin property, the couple’s vehicle, and several searches in Good Night Scrub National Park.

Detectives are urging anyone with information about Pheobe’s whereabouts to come forward as the investigation continues.
