Pam Bondi Faces Ethics Complaint Over Alleged Misconduct in DOJ Memo

Pam Bondi, the U.S. Attorney General, is facing serious allegations of misconduct. On June 6, 2025, a formal ethics complaint was filed against her with the Florida Bar. The complaint was signed by 70 individuals, including law professors, attorneys, and former Florida Supreme Court justices. Most of them are known for their moderate or liberal views.

According to the Miami Herald, the complaint says Bondi’s actions could damage the rule of law and the justice system. The main concern is about a memo she issued on February 5.

In that memo, Bondi reportedly told lawyers in her department to strongly support the President’s political goals. She warned that anyone who didn’t follow the order could face disciplinary action, or even be fired. The complaint argues that this kind of pressure violates legal ethics.

The people filing the complaint say that Bondi asked lawyers to ignore their professional responsibilities just to serve political purposes. Since Bondi is a member of the Florida Bar, they believe she should be held accountable under its rules.

However, not everyone agrees with the complaint. Chad Mizelle, chief of staff at the Department of Justice, dismissed it as “performative” and “vexatious”. He said the people behind it are using the ethics system for political attacks.
