BISP 8171 Portal Gets Major Update – Here’s What’s New

The Government of Pakistan is preparing to roll out a major upgrade to the 8171 web portal, a vital platform for millions of low-income citizens to check their eligibility and payment status under the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP). According to officials, “60% of the update work has been completed,” and the enhanced portal is expected to be fully operational by July 2025.

The updated version aims to improve functionality, speed, and user accessibility, especially for citizens with low digital literacy. The 8171 web portal is mainly used to:

• “Check BISP payment status”
• “Verify PMT score (poverty score)”
• “Check eligibility for Ehsaas and BISP programs”
• “Register complaints or update information”

Currently, the platform suffers from slow performance and technical glitches, making it difficult for users to retrieve information or register complaints. To resolve this, the government is introducing several changes including a more user-friendly layout and better mobile compatibility.

Among the new features are:

• “Enter your 13-digit CNIC and get instant status”
• “Check if your payment has been released”
• “Submit online complaints”
• “Update your family record or CNIC info”

The redesigned site will also offer “fast loading even on low-internet connections” and support real-time payment tracking.

The launch timeline includes testing by the end of June 2025, with a full public release in July. “Once launched, the portal will be open for all citizens 24/7,” and no re-registration is needed for those already in the BISP system.

Users will simply “visit the new 8171 portal,” “enter your CNIC number,” and “click on ‘Check My Status’” to get results.

This update is expected to significantly reduce the need for in-person visits, improve transparency, and restore public trust in the system.
