A 68-year-old British tourist was found dead on a beach in Lindos, a popular resort town on the Greek island of Rhodes, local authorities confirmed.
Tragic Discovery
According to Greek media, the elderly man had gone for a swim in the sea and was later found unconscious on the beach. The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon, and rescue efforts were quickly initiated. The Central Port Authority of Rhodes responded immediately to reports of a body lying on the shore.
The man was swiftly taken to Archangelos Health Center on the island, but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead on arrival. Authorities are now waiting for autopsy results to determine the official cause of death. Initial reports suggest he may have suffered a medical emergency while swimming, although this has not been confirmed.
UK Foreign Office Informed
Efforts to contact the UK Foreign Office for comment are ongoing. Officials are likely to assist the man’s family in coordination with Greek authorities.
This tragic death has added to growing concerns over the safety of tourists abroad, especially during peak holiday seasons.
Other British Tourist Incidents in Europe
Just days before this incident, two more British tourists were found dead in separate incidents in Albufeira, Portugal.
A 21-year-old man was discovered early Wednesday morning, reportedly fully clothed with all his belongings near a stairwell on Avenida da Liberdade. Authorities suspect alcohol overconsumption as a possible cause, and they do not suspect foul play.
Only hours later, Greg Monks, a 38-year-old Scottish man from Glasgow, was found dead after vanishing during a stag party. He is believed to have fallen from a cliff after becoming disoriented.
Concerns About Party Destinations
Local workers in the Portuguese resort have raised concerns about the environment in such destinations. One hotel staff member commented, “It encourages heavy drinking. Drugs are easy to find. Tourists lose control.”
While no drugs have been linked to Mr. Monks’ death, the trend of alcohol and substance abuse during holidays continues to alarm both locals and families of tourists.
